Why Do They Call It "HAM" Radio? (not shown in December and worth showing now)
1. Three radio pioneers had initials H, A, and M.
2. The term was similar to "lid", a pejorative used by old-time telegraphers referencing "ham-handed" keying.
3. It was a jab at operators trying to be funny on the air like "he's such a ham".
4. It came from "hamming codes" used during WW II.
1 or 2 can be considered correct.
