The early circuits were closed when not in use. This showed they were up.
The keys were in series and had shorting bars to keep a "mark" status with
current flowing. A "space" or "break" happened when a station operator
opened the circuit bar and started with a message. They closed the bar
when finished, restoring the mark status.
